School Observations and Program Evaluations
When evaluating children, it is sometimes important to better understand the child’s functioning by directly observing the child’s participation in his or her school setting across different academic and non-academic activities, various learning situations and times of days, and by observing the child’s interactions with different peer groups and teaching staff.
Dr. Greene is available to conduct a stand-alone classroom observation without a full neuropsychological evaluation or following the completion of a neuropsychological assessment and as part of a more comprehensive evaluation process. Observations can be used to assess the appropriateness of a school program, to determine modifications to an existing program, or to recommendation alternate types of programs.
Given Dr. Greene’s extensive experience working with school staff and special education Teams for more than twenty years as an educational consultant, she is familiar with a range of services designed to suit each individual’s unique needs. In addition to school-based observations, it may be useful to observe the child in other settings, such as in the home or in after-school programs. Dr. Greene is also available to observe and evaluate prospective alternate programs that might be recommended by the family or school-based members of the child’s Team. In all cases, Dr. Greene works closely with parents and professionals to utilize the data gained from observations to provide recommendations for services and programs will best meet the child’s full range of capabilities. Overall, when direct observations of the child
are used to evaluate the child’s program and this evaluation is combined with findings and recommendations from the child’s neuropsychological and diagnostic profile based on the formal neuropsychological assessment, as well as consultation with and assessments of teachers and other direct providers, Dr. Greene is able to formulate a comprehension picture and report of the child’s full range of needs and services that will help the child reach his or her learning potential.
