Neuropsychological Consultations

Neuropsychological consultations may serve many purposes. Often the client, parent, or legal guardian may request a follow up conversation to discuss how certain services are or are not progressing and to obtain guidance on next steps for implementing recommendations in a particular setting.

At times behavioral concerns may accompany neurological disorders. Neuropsychologists assist the patient, family, caregivers and remedial specialists in developing skills to cope with and manage identified problems. Behavioral consultation can serve many functions, which include providing further explanations of understanding the problem; identify neuropsychological, behavior, medical, and environmental factors that may be contributing to the problem; break down recommendations into more immediate and longer term intervention plans that can respond to the client’s identified problems; provide guidance to those supervising the implementation of the treatment strategy; determine the effectiveness of the treatment strategy; and suggest alternative interventions.
